T10 Enhance Set Bonuses: It's like Sex Panther for your gear

If you haven't seen it yet, here are our T10 set bonuses:

  • T10 Enhancement 2P Bonus - When you activate your Shamanistic Rage ability you also deal 12% additional damage for 15 sec.

  • T10 Enhancement 4P Bonus - Each time the beneficial effect of your Maelstrom Weapon talent reaches 5 charges, you have a 15% chance to gain 20% attack power for 10 sec.

Pretty sweet, right?

SR will be something we want to use and abuse, and save for Heroism no doubt. The 12% additional damange does not specify one type over another so I think it's pretty safe to assume that it is all damage, which is of course ideal for us Battlemages Enhancement Shamans.

The 4 piece set means no more clipping out LBs after 4 stacks. Interestingly, someone on the EJ Enhancement 3.3 thread was griping about how this was going to completely screw up their MW3/4 playstyle. I can't say that I advocate a MW3 or even MW4 priority rotation because we have so many ways to do damage I rarely even have the opportunity to bang out a MW3 cast. If it works for that guy then who am I to judge? But I definitely won't advocate that priority rotation.

Getting back on track... my first thought about the T10 4pc bonus was: haste. Stacking haste for more swings for more MW5s for more AP. Would haste be the new "it" gem, replacing AP, once you get 4pc T10?

A 15% chance for 20% more AP for 10 seconds means only 3% more AP for 16.67% of the time (assuming a 60 sec CD), which nets out to 0.5% more AP over the long haul. And that can only proc after Maelstrom Weapon stacks to five. If there is a 30 second internal CD on the proc then we'd be looking at 1% more AP over the long haul (15% x 20% x 10/30). If there is no internal CD on the proc then it's a frikkin free for all! But I seriously doubt that.

Let's say we wanted to max out uptime on that addtional set bonus, in order to do so we'd have to give up AP gems which give AP all the time (unlike Sex Panther by Odeon which 60% of the time works every time). So do we trade off haste for AP for that additional 1% AP over the long haul? I'm going to just take a shot in the dark here and say no.

In other words: the 4pc T10 set bonus is what it is: a bonus. I don't forsee any major mechanic changes in our playstyle with it. Just enjoy the bonus and be sure to not clip the MW stacks.

What do you think?

May all your hits be crits!

The bonuses seem awesome.

About the change from AP to haste, some people are already considering that the Bis setup for us in EJ- but I still think it´s more of a simulation phalacy. On most fights, the perfect setup the sim uses is not accurate, so you can not achieve those simmed results.

I did not make the switch from AP to haste, and I probably wont with these set bonuses, but it does look like a viable alternative - at least should try it out.

I am so stoked!

I tried it, don't waste your time shelling out the gold for King's Amber/Ametrine. Unlike AP, an increase to haste doesn't always translate an increase to dps. Too much fine tuning and regemming with every new piece of gear.

Unless your hardcore into theory crafting, stick with what works. AP all the way.

What worries me the most about the change to SR with the 2 piece Tier Bonus is probably the fact that we will now be using a mostly defensive cooldown to be an offensive spell. Trying to time it with your trinkets, heros and other procs to take most advantage of that damage increase instead of using it to regenerate your mana or during intense damage intake feels kind of weird. It is an interesting change non the less, I guess our class continues to become more and more complex (somewhat) in regards of what to use and when to use it to maximize our DPS. We've come a long way from being a One Button Macro class to one that's complex, diverse and insanely fun.

Cheers,
Chimi.

2 pc. is awesome and it scales with everything.
4 pc. I'm asuming no ICD with only a 15% proc chance. If so it should be a pretty good bonus. If there is an ICD of any length it becomes incredibly mediocre.

I could not agree with you more. With T10 it's basically a 1min trinket, an oh sh!t spell, and we will be seeing a higher mana return during that damage increase which I enjoyed pre-nerf.

This change will give SR more utility as we begin to learn and experience the new 3.3 boss fights, and even current ones. Since there are cases where we do not require damage mitigation, and having that 12% overall damage buff every minute is key (on different bosses, or even the same boss but different phases).

Kinda early to say this, but if the T11 2 set bonus doesn't meet or surpass the current T10 bonus then I'm definitely rocking 2xT10/2xT11.

I am a AP stacker still, I have some pretty nice gear but ever since I started this class I understood haste is the number 1 stat in terms of potential for the future. I view enhancement as more of an Engine, when it is going and the timing is right, you can output huge amounts of damage, if you have to dps on and off, get adds, avoid lava waved etc, dps is hurt a lot. Think about what haste really does for the class, obviously Maelstrom procs, but also more LB the more chance for Elemental devastation which in turn first more crit chance which provides more flurry uptime which keeps a 25% haste buff on you which then increases more MS proc etc. It is a cycle, in addition to this you get more FT weapon damage. Poping hero + trinket (500haste) + haste pot for example, you will have always a 5 stack of MS every 1 to 2 GCD which is extremely powerful, and not to mention the GCD reduction. Also more hits means more chances to proc trinkets faster / beserking etc. the upside to AP is it increases damage from both spell / melee dps which is helpful.

Anyways these bonuses are going to be insane for sure.

Isn't Tier 10 supposed to be the last tier in WotLK?

My first thought on seeing that was stack haste... even EJ has a haste stack as BiS sim for t9 but the % bonus for AP seems like a bigger bonus. I'm still going to stack AP

Respectfully, if I have to use my SR as a defensive tool, then something is wrong in my raid. I can't think of a non-PVP situation that calls for me to have 30% more dodge. It's simply a mana refill for me, and i'm glad it's being given this utility.

The cool thing about the t10 bonuses is since they are the last ones for this expansion Blizzard seems to be having a bit of a blowout! They all just seem more fun :)

You know what I'd like to see? A cool special effect when set bonuses proc.

@Wangari said "On most fights, the perfect setup the sim uses is not accurate, so you can not achieve those simmed results." And I totally agree with him. Think this would be good for a new post...

@Wolfieone - There are times when SR is a huge help. For example, I save SR for XT's tantrums when we do hardmode. I'm one less person the healers have to worry about during that time. More recently, I find it useful on ToGC25 Gormok. We bring Snobolds into melee range and if one is attacking me from another's back and a stomp is coming I'll pop SR to help reduce the total damage I'm taking.

On the whole if you're using SR outside of unique situations then yes, there are bigger problems to worry about in your raid!
