Enhancement Shaman DPS Specs
There are a few absolute must-have abilities for the Enhancement Shaman. Once those points are spent everything else is a matter of finite degrees and variations that makes one spec slightly better for soloing or raiding or PvP.
Base Enhancement Talent Points:
- 5/5 Thundering Strikes
- 5/5 Flurry
- 3/3 Elemental Weapons
- 3/3 Weapon Mastery
- 3/3 Mental Dexterity
- 1/1 Dual Wield
- 3/3 DW Specialization
- 1/1 Lava Lash
- 1/1 Stormstrike
- 3/3 Mental Quickness
- 1/1 Shamanistic Rage
- 5/5 Maelstrom Weapon
- 1/1 Feral Spirit
- 3/3 Elemental Devastation
PvE Specs
Standard Raid- 19/52/0 . This is the standard build for any raiding Enhancement Shaman. It picks up all of the essential talents then uses the remaining points to round out the damage and support of a raid situation. This spec has great versatility for 5s, 10s, and 25s. The Clearcasting is a huge mana saver when you integrate Fire Nova into your rotation.
There is some flexibility to exchange Shamanistic Focus for an extra point in Improved Shields. It results in a net DPS increase, though you have to be vigilant in the use of Shamanistic Rage.
Glyphs - As for glyphing in PvE, the top three Glyphs are now:
- Glyph of Feral Spirit - those wolves do some serious damage while they're out, this glyph will put them over the top
- Glyph of Stormstrike - this is the only glyph that's been a must-have for Enhance since the glyphing system came out.
PvP Specs
PvP specs sacrifice offensive stats for the increased armor and the movement impairment reduction of Toughness. Regardless of spec tweaks there are a few talent options that only make sense for PvP. They are:
- Earth’s Grasp - increases Earthbind Totem radius by 20%, making it whopping 12 yd radius.
- Toughness - increased armor and reduced movement impairment makes this 5 point talent very attractive. It does require a 5 point investment though.
- Earthen Power - Earthbind Totem removes all snaring effects. This with Earth's Grasp make Earthbind Totem a pretty sweet combo
- Elemental Warding - effective Patch 3.0.8 this will reduce "all damage taken by 2/4/6%" A must have for PvP.
- Improved Fire Nova Totem - Increases FN damage done by 20% and 100% chance to stun when it goes off. This is a great pocket shaman trick especially out of the gate in today's fast-paced arena matches; 2 seconds can be an eternity.
This spec is generally the most popular spec among the tope PvP Enhancement Shamans. It's dropped all the PvE totem buffs, Static Shock, and Imp Shields and replaced with PvP totems, 2/5 Toughness, Frozen Power, and Improved Fire Nova totem (for the stun). Frostbrand Weapon is be the imbue of choice for PvP because when coupled with Frozen Power, Frost Shock becomes a very powerful ranged snare; something sorely lacking in the Enhancement Shaman's arsenal.
Glyphs - Here I go with WF and Feral Spirit glyphs for starters, however in PvP the Glyph of Stoneclaw Totem is an absolute must-have. Also, be sure you have the minor Glyph of Ghost Wolf and Glyph of Water Shield for PvP; every little bit helps.
The Harliya Special
Harliya is the arena gladiator I interviewed in mid 2009 to find out how is in the top brackets every season across all levels. If you haven't read parts 1 & 2 then go ahead right now. Here is his spec:
17/54/0. He sacrifices 2 points in Dual Wield Specialization to ensure he's got enough survivability and utility built into the tree. His Minor Glyphs are also worthy of note:
- Glyph of Ghost Wolf - every little bit of health helps
- Glyph of Water Breathing - buff your party before every match, it's just one more thing that needs to be dispelled
- Glyph of Water Shield - very interesting choice, but when you're low on mana in the heat of the battle and someone's beating on you (which they always will because you're a Shaman) then you'll replenish a little bit of mana along the way.
